Young Musician to Showcase Talents at Senior Recital

Merina Gordon, Pomeroy

Merina Gordon of Pomeroy will give her senior music recital on June 16, 2012, at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon at the Lewiston United Methodist Church, 1906 Broadview Drive. Merina will showcase her talents with works for solo voice, pipe organ, and piano. She will play musical works from a wide range of genre including classical, impressionistic, and modern. Composers will include Bach, Debussy, Diemer, and more. The recital will be followed by a reception and graduation celebration held in the Church’s Fellowship Hall. There is no cost to attend the recital or the reception.

Merina has won Gold Medals in organ performance at the annual  MusicFest Competition in Spokane. She has also been a winner at the Terry Jordan Memorial Organ Competition, sponsored by the American Guild of Organists. Merina has been a regular finalist in the Washington State Music Teacher Assn's annual piano Honors Recital sponsored by the Clarkston/Lewiston Chapter. Following the piano competition at last year's MusicFest, she was asked to perform on KPBX radio.

Merina will graduate from high school from the Academy of Notre Dame Home Study Program on June 9, 2012. She has studied music since she was three years old. Her earliest introduction to music was via Suzuki violin lessons in the Seattle area. She started piano lessons at five with Debra Stentzel-Pankaskie of Walla Walla. Merina later took lessons from Marlene Schilling of Pomeroy. When she was ten, she started lessons with Lori Legg-Germer at the Academy of Performing Arts in Clarkston and Moscow. Merina began pipe organ lessons under Dr. Jill Schneider of Pullman and voice lessons with Beth Legg of Clarkston when she was 13. She has been taught piano by Dr. Schneider for the past two years. Merina will be attending the Washington State University School of Music this coming fall where she will major in organ performance and keyboard pedagogy.
